History

Early LabRPS 1, version unknown.
Early LabRPS 2, version unknown.

How it all started

LabRPS began in Spetember 2015 when Koffi Togbenou started his PhD study in Southwest Jiaotong University in China. At that time the application was only for the numerical simulation of Stochastic wind velocity therefore it was called WindLab. The application was presented for the first time in his PhD dissertation in 2017. It was developed based on the Microsoft Foundation Class Library (MFC), a C++ object-oriented library for developing desktop applications for Windows. Then later in 2018, the application was modified with the introduction of a plugin system and the ability to work with more random phenomena. Therefore, the name of the application was changed to LabRPS. This version also was based on the MFC library but through the BCGControlBar, a commercial software development framework which is an MFC extension library that allows you to create Microsoft Office and Microsoft Visual Studio-like applications. This version was not published due the constraints associated with the BCGControlBar license. He decided then to rewrite the application based on Qt, the world-famous user interface framework and released the application under an open source license in 2025 instead of 2023 as initially planned.
